Learn about the experience of cycling 175-350 miles from Jerusalem to Eilat! Hear from Israel Ride alumni, including event organizer and Ride alum Bruce Stanger, about the Arava Institute & Hazon Israel Ride, and how the Ride is much more than just a bike ride.

We are proud to announce special guest speakers at this event! David Lehrer, Executive Director of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies (AIES) and Yosra Albakkar, an alumna of AIES and a Friends of the Arava Institute board member, will be presenting.

Yosra Albakkar is an alumna of the Arava Institute and Board Member at Friends of the Arava Institute.  She graduated from Trent University in September 2014 with a Masters degree in Sustainability Studies and also a Bachelors degree in Radiographic Technology from Jordan University of Science and Technology.

Since her graduation, Yosra has turned her attention to the greater issues facing Jordanian society, especially water scarcity and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

In 2010, Yosra co-founded the NGO Green Earth with group of young Jordanians aiming to raise public awareness about environmental issues that are facing Jordan and engaging people to be part of future solutions.  The next year, Yosra won second place at The Next Jordanian Role Model, ’ an online competition for inspiring young Jordanians,  and co-published her first scientific article in Revolve Magazine in Holland.

Yosra has received a number of prestigious awards and recognition for her outstanding service, including acting as a Jordanian Climate Ambassador at the DIMNA Climate Change Conference in Denmark, being selected as a She Entrepreneur by the Swedish Institute (which provides training in social entrepreneurship and sustainability for female entrepreneurs), working as a Global Politics Ambassador for Jordanian students at the Global Politics Center at the Free University of Berlin, and was the selected as the first recipient for the Daughters for Life Foundation scholarship.

Fueled  by her love for the Middle East and her passion for peace and conflict resolution, Yosra dreams of becoming a politician in Jordan and helping to build bridges of peace for the future.

This is an opportunity to join together with riders past, present, and future, including anyone interested in riding in Israel for sustainability and peace.
